Studio brief 2: Design process

Logo
The developments are all based on the shapes and lines that are naturally developed within a rice paddy field. I then started to build up the rice field arrangements using geometric shapes to see if the two could work well together. The decision was made that it didn't work as a design, feedback suggested that it was similar to other well-known shapes I decided to use the lines alone as a pattern and then image clip it into a hexagon. The colour choices were part of it to, with the two bigger sections being orange and pale blue; the two colours that I would most associate to me as a person and within my design work. The hexagon also represents the 6 steps of rice production and the 6 steps of my design process from start to finish.

Colours
To try and decide on a colour scheme, I collected the majority of my design work that I have created since starting the degree at LCA. I was then able to take colour swatches from the work and see which colours I tended to use the most. Another colour swatch was made up of colours labelled to be vibrant. Taking some vibrant colours and some of the most commonly used ones from my work I was able to create a colour palette of 4 colours that I could use as my personal branding.

Font
I tried a number of fonts that I thought to be suitable to represent me as a designer, my personality and the kind of work that I produce. I decided that lowercase worked best to represent that I was not fully progressed as a designer and that I am still learning and growing. the chosen typeface was Andale Mono as it was decided that it worked the best to work as part of my self branding.
